Orfit was officially founded in 1991, building on a legacy of innovation that began decades earlier. The name Orfit—short for Orthopaedic Fitting—originated in 1981 when Leon Van Malderen developed groundbreaking thermoplastic sheets for the medical device market. These materials set a new standard in rehabilitation and radiation oncology, offering unmatched performance and patient care solutions.

Leon’s journey as a visionary entrepreneur began in 1959 when he pioneered in monofilament technology for high-performance applications, including racquet sports and precision medical sutures. His expertise and innovative spirit laid the foundation for Orfit’s commitment to quality and excellence.

Since 1991, Orfit has evolved under the leadership of Leon’s daughter, Christine Van Malderen, and her husband, Steven Cuypers, followed by the third generation. Today, Orfit Industries remains dedicated to developing innovative solutions that improve patient outcomes in rehabilitation, orthotics, and oncology care.
